JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The results are in from the 10th Annual Canstruction® competition at the Jacksonville Landing, and the winner among local voters was "Gnome More Hunger" – a structure made in the form of giant garden gnome by The Haskell Company.

ImageThe structure was created using 936 cans of beans, pasta, tuna and assorted boxed foods. More than 200 ballots were cast by the general public in this year's competition - the majority of those coming at the First Wednesday Art Walk held May 4. The structure also won Best Use of Labels and Best Meal honors.

ImageWhile the general public preferred the design creativity of the Haskell team, Canstruction® judges selected "Extinguishing Hunger," designed by Bergmann & Associates, as the winner of the Juror's Favorite awards. "Chomp Out Hunger" won the Structural Integrity Award.

ImageThe three structures were constructed on April 29 and remained on display through May 13. The food products used in their creation – totaling 2,892 pounds – were donated to Nourishment Network North Florida. In the 10 years of the event in Jacksonville, Canstruction® has totaled more than 100,000 pounds of donated food to Nourishment Network.

Canstruction® brings together professionals from the design, construction and engineering communities who put their talents to use to help make a difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate. The event is a foundation of the Society for Design Administration (SDA). Similar competitions are being held in cities throughout North America. In addition to The Jacksonville Landing, other sponsors of this year's event include the Jacksonville Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and ARC Printing of Jacksonville.
