JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - First Coast residents can contribute important food items this weekend (Friday and Saturday, Sept. 24-25) by participating in the Hero Central Food Drive, which is being sponsored by Publix and held in conjunction with Second Harvest, First Coast News, Simon Malls and the United Way of Northeast Florida.
First Coast residents are encouraged to participate in the two-day event and help provide important resources for families in need throughout the First Coast. All food collected will go to Second Harvest and its network of more than 500 member agencies. Collection sites will accept donations from 4:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25 at these locations:
* St. Johns Town Center (Target entrance off Town Center Drive)
* Orange Park Mall (By Sears on the Blanding Blvd. side)
* St. Augustine Premium Outlets (East of I-95)
Volunteers from the United Way, Second Harvest North Florida and Publix will join First Coast News at the mall collection sites. First Coast News will have live hourly coverage on Friday until 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday during "Good Morning Jacksonville," from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on WTLV NBC 12 - live from both the St. Johns Town Center and Orange Park Mall locations.
The “Hero Central Food Drive-Presented by Publix” is a collaborative effort by Gannett-owned First Coast News, Publix Super Markets, Second Harvest North Florida, The United Way of Northeast Florida, Simon Properties and America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia.
