JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Second Harvest North Florida works each day to answer the call in the ongoing battle against domestic hunger, but the food bank is reaching out this weekend and asking the First Coast community for a helping hand during the "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers.
The National Association of Letter Carriers sponsors the largest one-day food drive in the United States on Mother's Day weekend each year. This year's event will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010.
The 18th Annual "Stamp Out Hunger" Food Drive, the largest one-day food drive in the United States, is set for Saturday, May 8. Residents are asked to leave nonperishable food donations in bags or boxes by their mailboxes.
More than 325,000 pounds of food was donated to Second Harvest North Florida through the NALC event in 2009, and the goal is to secure 500,000 pounds in 2010.
