WHAT: Inaugural Faith Feeds Families Food Drive
WHEN: March 1-April 10, 2011
WHO: Any church or faith organization can participate
Thanks to the generous support of our many donors, we were able to feed almost twice as many hungry families and children as we did in 2009. That’s right – more than 19 million pounds of food distributed to individuals and families, which represents an astounding 85 percent increase in just 12 months. Literally translated, that is enough food to create 14.6 million meals.
Are you struggling to provide for your family? SNAP can help! The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program helps put food on the table for some 31 million people per month. It provides low-income households with monthly electronic benefits they can use like cash at most grocery stores. This is the same program formerly known as food stamps.
Second Harvest North Florida is committed to helping solve the issue of hunger in the communities we serve throughout north Florida. Part of that commitment is helping individuals and families find the food resources they need, both short- and long-term. Each year volunteers representing the local restaurant community host an event called The Jacksonville FOODFIGHT that features 50 or more of Jacksonville’s finest restaurants and beverage wholesalers/distributors who come together in friendly competition to “take a bite out of hunger” by raising funds and awareness for the Second Harvest North Florida.
The 21st Annual Jacksonville FOODFIGHT will be held at the EverBank Field Touchdown Club on Thursday, June 9, 2011. The event will feature 50 local restaurants, beverage distributors and caterers engaging in a friendly competition showcasing their signature dishes. In addition to the fabulous food and spirits, there will be live entertainment and a silent auction and raffle - both featuring an array of exciting items.
