Without the generosity of this amazing community of donors, Second Harvest would not be able to distribute 22M pounds of food to the hungry men, women and children of 17 north Florida counties each year. Our donors are so critical to our mission, we are always on the lookout for new way to recognize you for the great impart you are making in our community.
Gleaning refers to the gathering of crops left behind after farmers are done harvesting. Crops may get left behind for several reasons. Sometimes food is left behind from a field that was mechanically harvested, or the food may not be worth the cost to the farmer due to labor cost or expected low profits from the market. However, the food that remains behind is still healthy and nutritious food that can be used. Gleaning is one of many things that Second Harvest North Florida does to help rescue food that can be used to feed those in need.
Join Second Harvest North Florida in recognizing a super partner: Bimbo Bakeries. Since June, 2012, the benevolent bakers have donated more than 105,000 pounds of bread to feed the hungry men, women and children of north Florida. These delicious baked goods include English muffins, bagels, hot dog and hamburger rolls, pizza crusts, specialty and traditional sliced breads, tortillas, and rolls. When the Bimbo Bakery donation arrives at the food bank every Monday and Thursday, the large carts overflow with great products.
