Second Harvest North Florida is a proud member of Feeding America, the nation's largest charitable hunger-relief organization. It has a network of 205 member food banks and food-rescue organizations serving all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The Feeding America Network secures and distributes more than 2 billion pounds of donated food and grocery products annually.
Through the assistance of local and national food assistance programs, Feeding America is able to provide nutritious, fresh foods to Americans struggling with hunger; safe and nurturing places for children to have a meal; emergency assistance for disaster victims; as well as a chance at self-sufficiency for adults trying to break the cycle of poverty and hunger.
The United States is the largest and most efficient food producer in the world, so the resources to solve the problem exist. Feeding America's public policy efforts focus on working with Congress, as well as state and local officials, to strengthen and expand the programs and solutions available to our nation’s food insecure. Its goal is to support policies that help solve America’s growing hunger crisis, while raising public awareness about the issues of hunger in our country.
With unprecedented need for hunger relief, countless corporations, foundations and individuals gave generously of their time, funds and food and grocery product to help provide emergency food assistance to more than 37 million Americans.
